Healthy protein snacks
with chia seeds and sunbutter

It's nice to have quick protein snacks that you can grab for on the go or as a quick snack at home! I love sunbutter and chia seeds so I though why not combine the two together! With the addition of chocolate chips this is quite the tasty snack or treat!

I was at the grocery store looking at all of the different protein bars and energy snacks however looking at the ingredients they all look like they add a lot of unnecessary sugars and syrups. I ate a non-allergy safe Chia Seed bar that had peanut butter and chocolate in it, and why I thoroughly enjoyed it I wanted to make a healthier and more allergy friendly version with less sugar.

Chia seeds are a great addition to this recipe as they are packed with fiber, protein, omega-3's and many more nutrients.  Combining the chia seeds with sunbutter and sunflower seeds makes this a protein packed healthy and delicious snack or treat, plus it's simple and easy to make!

Protein snacks - recipe Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Sunbutter (or peanut butter alternative of your choice)
  • 1/4 Cup Chia Seeds
  • 1/2 Cup Quinoa Cereal (see below picture)
  • 1/4 Cup Sunflower Seeds
  • 1/2 Cup Chocolate Chips (I used Enjoy Life Brand, you can also reduce to 1/4 cup if desired)
  • Remember to always read the label before purchasing to confirm the product does not include or process in a facility that contains your allergen.
Healthy Protein Snacks! A delicious sunbutter recipe!

Add sunbutter into a microwave safe dish, place into microwave and heat for approx 30-45 seconds. Just enjoy to make it easier to mix, should be smooth but not completely melted.

Next combine chia seeds, quinoa cereal and sunflower seeds, mix with a spoon until ingredients are well combined. Mixture should start to form into a large ball. Allow cooling for a couple minutes then slowly mix in the chocolate chips.

Quinoa Cereal Recipes

Place mixture into fridge and allow to sit for 30 minutes to and hour.

Once chilled remove and using your hands (this is the fun part) roll into balls, approx the size of a tablespoon or slightly smaller, small enough to be bite size.

Once you are finished rolling the entire mixture into individual balls, pop one into your mouth and enjoy!! Just in case you haven't tried it yet : )

This is also a delicious frozen treat, place into the fridge for 1-2 hours, or even over night, if you can stand to wait that long. Try making the balls a little smaller and place into a freezer bag and enjoy as a quick boost of protein or for a quick healthy treat!
