Energy packed Date Bars

Date bars made from scratch, a delicious and healthy snack recipe for the whole family! This energy packed protein snack is great for anytime of the day or if you are craving something sweet but don't want to eat something loaded with sugar try this naturally sweet and delicious treat!

I absolutely love dates and I quite often grab a few to snack on if I need something sweet! They satisfy my sweet tooth, and dates are a great addition to recipes when you are looking to add a little sweet without adding any sugars. Additionally they are also packed with potassium, fiber and contain a little protein!

What is your favorite way to enjoy dates? Have you ever tried them?

I also added hemp and chia seeds to this treat. Chia seeds help to hold things together and both of these seeds give you and added boost of protein, fiber and healthy omega 3's!!

Are you allergic to seeds? You can skip this recipe or perhaps try rolling with some gluten free oats if that is safe for you (I have not tried using oats yet - share your experience).

Seeds are becoming a more common allergen so double check that these seeds are not a risk for you!

ingredients: date bars

  • 8 oz package pitted dates
  • 1/2 Cup Plain Organic Applesauce
  • 1 TBSP Organic Sunbutter (or nut free butter of choice)
  • 1 TBSP Pure Vanilla
  • 2 tsp Chia Seeds
  • 2 tsp hemp seeds (to sprinkle on top)
  • 2 TBSP Carob Powder (check label for allergens)

In a food processor combine all ingredients minus hemp seeds. While adding in the dates, double check to make sure the seed have been removed. I usually buy without seeds however occasionally I come across a few that still have a seed or partial seed.

Blend ingredients until a smooth and creamy texture form. Next scoop the mixture onto a piece of parchment paper and sprinkle the top with the hemp seeds.

Roll parchment paper over date mixture and flatten mixture into a rectangular shape. Cover and seal edges (you can also place in freezer bag). Then allow mixture to set by placing into the freezer,  wait approximately one to two hours, remove from freezer and cut into small servings! You can enjoy straight out of the freezer or place into the fridge if you want them a little softer for a tasty and delicious energy packed treat any time!

I like to keep this in the freezer and will grab a small piece for a quick and tasty treat!
